December 1999: Pen and Colored Pencils.

Caption: October: “Nina twirled merrily inside the leaf chain, batting at the wind with her open hands.”

Explanation: Ivy came to Nina’s place to help her family rake leaves, but they got permission to play instead (as long as Ivy promised to clean up the mess). Here, a carefully crafted wind blows a chain of leaves around nine-year-old Nina, who is enchanted and delighted by the opportunity to play this way. (From THTIB #4, chapter 28)

IVY TRIVIA: Ivy first recognized the artistic side of her wind creating ability when she was still going to high school (back in THTIB #2). It started simply as a release but quickly became a fulfilling solitary art. It is lonely to be the only person who truly appreciates the value of such an art . . . but what she doesn’t know is that she is not the only wind artist in the world. . . .
